Household Products
The products I chose to look up were:
- Swiffer WetJet Liquid Floor Cleaner Advanced
- Pledge Multi Surface Antibacterial, Fresh Citrus
Were you surprised to find out the toxicity rating of your household products?
- I was pleasantly surprised with the toxicity ratings of the products I chose. Both of them received a health score of 1. They seem like they are acceptable to use as household cleaners. Of course they are not to be used in contact with the skin or eyes, not to be ingested, and should be used in a well ventilated area.
- At this time I did not. I typically try and steer away from "strong" cleaners, and I always use them in well ventilated areas.
- Everyone should know about these risks. Similar to the personal care products, we use these items in our homes, pretty frequently. It is important to be aware of what we are using and what health risks they may be to us. People may be uneducated about the risks, and as with the personal care products, they are simply advertised to be products to improve our daily lives. Companies don't readily talk about the health hazards they pose.
Hey Loren,
ReplyDeleteSo glad the swiffer cleaner got a 1! I use mine all the time and would have been upset if it had a higher rating. That's good that you don't use very strong products around your home. Hopefully all the products in our homes have low ratings but it is our job to further investigate them.

I was surprised to read that the Swiffer has such a low rating. I used the Swiffer Wet in my home, but sometimes the smell bothers me. I wonder if its fragrance is an unrated chemical. I know there was an urban myth about Swiffer that it harms pets and I'm glad that it is safe as well.
